Major Small Business Organization Supports Sportfishing Boats
“Prior to the pandemic, recreational anglers contributed $5.6 billion annual to California’s economy, supporting small businesses and jobs,” said John Kabateck, California State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business. “California can’t afford costly and onerous regulations that threaten to put sportfishing boats, family-operated, out of business. Doing so will not help rebuild California’s post-COVID-19 economy.”

“Sportfishing boats can be found in most marinas, all the way from San Diego to as far North as Fort Bragg,” said Kate Pearson, MRA Vice President. “Sportfishing is critical to so many coastal communities, attracting tourists that generate income for local businesses and their workers. Join us in saving California’s sportfishing community.”
Before the sportfishing industry can recover from a global pandemic that shut down their businesses, the Newsom Administration is proposing new engine regulations that are both costly and onerous -- so much so that many sportfishing boats will go out of business within 3-6 years from when the regulations are implemented.

The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundations reports that in 2020 fishing participation rates increased to a 12-year high, with growth among nontraditional participants that are younger, more urban, and more diverse with significant gains among women, African Americans, and Hispanics.
To sustain this growth in fishing participation rates, Californians need access to sportfishing boats. Help protect them by signing the petition to Governor Newsom.
Don't let costly boat regulations sink small business owners.
